Research interests

Sith Sathornsumetee, MD, is Professor of Neurology and Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. He is an internationally recognized neuro-oncologist and he serves as Vice-chair of the Education and Outreach Committee of the Asian Society for Neuro-Oncology (ASNO).

Dr. Sathornsumetee received his medical degree with First Class Honours and the Gold Medal from Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. He completed research training in Neuro-immunology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Neurology residency and Neuro-oncology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, USA. His clinical expertise includes treatment of patients with brain tumors and neurologic complications of cancer. His research has focused on preclinical and clinical development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies including drug delivery systems and precision medicine for brain tumors. He has published more than 90 full-length manuscripts, invited reviews, and international book chapters. The current H-indices are 35 (Scopus) and 38 (Google Scholar).

Apart from his clinical practice, teaching, and research, he served as Director of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management (SiCORE-M) Unit at Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital from 2018 to 2022. He and his team identified challenges and strategies to excel in biomedical and health science research under advice from international Research and Innovation Advisory Committee of the Faculty. Several support mechanisms have been implemented to accelerate our signature research programs and to drive Siriraj to become a world-class medical institute through advancing high-impact research and innovation. Since October 2022, he has served as Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation to oversee the research support, manpower, space and infrastructure, and funding for the whole Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
