Abstract
analyses the state of labor market in the Northern Caucasus. The paper is built on an analysis of statistics and survey results related to a variety of employment aspects in the above region of Russia. An ambiguity, characterizes the standard negative assessments of the labor market here. Both negative and positive trends are observable in regard to unemployment level, to business forms, and self-employment. There emerged new forms of activities such as spontaneous trade and service. To summarize, authors suggest certain correctives to the current policies in the labor market of the region.
